Spring is in the air—but for many, so are allergens. If you're one of the countless people who suffer from seasonal allergies, you’re probably familiar with itchy eyes, sneezing, sinus congestion, and those lingering headaches. While antihistamines are the usual go-to, they’re not the only option.
At Health Tree Acupuncture in Bethnal Green, we offer a natural, holistic approach to allergy relief, helping you feel better without relying solely on medication.
Why Choose Acupuncture for Seasonal Allergy Relief?
More and more people are turning to acupuncture for hay fever and allergic rhinitis—and the science supports it. A study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine looked at 422 people with seasonal allergies. They were split into three groups: one received 12 sessions of real acupuncture over 8 weeks, one had sham acupuncture, and one had no treatment at all. All had access to antihistamines.
The results? The group who received real acupuncture had significantly better symptom relief and used less medication.
At Health Tree Acupuncture, we see this in clinic all the time—our patients often report immediate improvements in sinus pressure and nasal congestion after a session.
Natural Allergy Relief You Can Try at Home
Alongside acupuncture treatments, there are a few simple things you can do at home to support your body during allergy season.
Acupressure for Sinus Relief
Acupressure uses gentle pressure on acupuncture points to release tension, clear energy blockages, and improve circulation. . You can try these self-help acupressure treatments throughout the day. Although not the same as an acupuncture treatment these exercises will offer some temporary relief of symptoms

Large Intestine 4:To locate this point feel around the fleshy area between the index finger and thumb. When you feel the tender area that's the point you want to apply pressure to. Feel for tenderness at the point on both hands, if one side feels more tender focus more on the tender side. Apply pressure for about 30 seconds and release, repeat a few times.

Large Intestine 20: I use this point in the clinic and find that once the needles are inserted patients can feel their sinuses draining.. You can work on this point without needles! Feel for a slight indentation on either side of the nostrils and apply firm upward pressure directed towards the eyes. Apply pressure for about 30 seconds and release, repeat a few times.
Essential Oils for Allergies
Essential oils are another natural option that can support your respiratory system and reduce inflammation:
Peppermint: Known to reduce inflammation. Its anti-inflammatory properties could make breathing easier by diffusing the oil in a diffuser or even applying it on your skin after it’s diluted with a carrier oil.

Frankincense: Reduces inflammatory activity in the body. One study reports that frankincense exhibits anti-inflammatory effects in bronchitis, which causes inflammation of the airways, and sinus infections. It may also be beneficial for people with asthma.
Lemon: In one study, it was found that a lemon-based nasal spray helped in the treatment of perennial and seasonal allergic rhinitis. Lemon essential oil can also inhibit bacterial activity.
Lavender: Naturally reduces inflammation, inhibits anxiety, and promotes deep sleep, all of which benefit people with allergies.
Chamomile: In a review of the properties of chamomile oil, it was reported that chamomile is an effective anti-inflammatory that can treat skin conditions, inflammation of the mucous membranes, and symptoms of sinusitis.
⚠️ Important Safety Note: Essential oils are powerful—use with care. Avoid applying citrus-based oils before sun exposure, and consult a practitioner before using oils during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or with children.
